Our inspiration

The extraordinary development achieved in the field of textiles by the Andean pre-Hispanic cultures is widely demonstrated; the marvelous textiles which are preserved today in many museums attest to exceptional levels of attainment. However, the arrival of the Spanish over 500 years ago also brought European development and technology.

Pedal-operated horizontal looms and hand-operated knitting machines arrived from the Old World. Gradually, the Andean people assimilated, and later adapted, these valuable instruments which eventually enabled weavers, accustomed to seeking perfection, to embody their very rich and ancient heritage in sophisticated products.

It was during the early years of the colonization of South America that the true “Meeting of Two Worlds” took place: the Inca Empire at its peak, and the Spanish Empire as the most advanced in the world.

The result was OUR INSPIRATION - a wonderful fusion of the latent skills of the Andean craftsman with European technology, creating products that bring to light the best of these two worlds.
